For all those in need of some more Second World War action (particularly those who enjoyed Band of Brothers) comes a new mini-series from Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks entitled ‘The Pacific’.
More info from Wikipedia:
It is similar, although unrelated, to Band of Brothers. Whereas Band of Brothers focused on the United States Army’s involvement in the European Theater of Operations, the new series will be about United States Marine Corps’s actions in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
The Pacific is being spearheaded by Bruce McKenna (co-executive producer), who was one of the main writers on Band of Brothers. Hugh Ambrose, the son of Band of Brothers author Stephen Ambrose, will serve as a project consultant.
The Pacific is based primarily on two memoirs of U.S. Marines: With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie. The series will tell the stories of the two authors and Marine John Basilone, as the war against the Empire of Japan rages.
Given the literary sources mentioned above, the series will feature well-known battles involving the 1st Marine Division, such as Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa, as well as Basilone’s involvement in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
When it comes to The Second Word War, I’m a bit of a nut. Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers both capture my attention about the time I was in university and were strong influences for me and some of the design work I was doing at the time. The bravery, the horror and the scale of events that took place during 1939-1945 are something that I strive to learn more about and never forget.
The Pacific will premiere in the US on March 14th 2010.
In the UK, Sky Movies will air the series in Spring 2010.

I don’t think there’s many people that haven’t already seen the youtube clips of the Filipino “Dancing Inmates”. They’ve done a variety of dancing to various songs and even did a tribute to Michael Jackson after he passed away last year.
This time they’re back and with the help of Michael Jacksons long-time choreographer Travis Payne and dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid they were taught the performances from ‘This Is It’.

I’ve been a huge fan of Newgrounds going way back until about 1999 when I discovered the flash animation/games portal. It was ‘the’ first flash portal site of its kind and it produced a massive a community of flash animaters/coders and musicians. There’s always going to be a balance of great and bad animated cartoons on the site but as time has gone on, some great animators have made use of the Newgrounds platform to promote their work. (Adam Philips for one).
Happy Harry is one of those great animators and with the help of youtube I present you his latest piece of work:
He’s also pretty well known for putting up this fantastic Watchmen parody:
Banksy, the ever elusive and controversial street artist continues his work but this time for film. Apparently we’ll get to hear him for the first time (probably not see him though) in his new film which will debut in the Sundance Film Festival this week. Promotion for the film seems to be carried out in the usual unorthodox style that Banksy has become to be known with stencils appearing on walls around the area where the film festival takes place. If the film is anything like the trailer, I think we’ll see a very clever perspective on street and graffiti artists.
In keeping with the ‘wrestling’ posts we’ve had lately I show you this:
Just heard that Robert Pattinson could be inline to be the next “Peter Parker” in the reboot Spiderman movie.
Now as much as I like reboots this one is already making me itchy because of Robert Pattinson and this whole Twilight phenomenon. Will the Die Hard comic book fans who love spiderman go and see a film like this just to sit through teenage girls who all scream when he comes on-screen and swoon when he gives that “Gay” intense stare of his… some of us guys will… some.. WON’T…
I watched Twilight just to see what all the fuss was about and I can say it was a waste of 2 hours of my life. The film was slow, the script from a Mills and Boon romance novel, the vampires were Lame… and worst of all the women in it were munters… in my opinion.
Below is one the parody posters for the book “New Moan – The Twishite Saga”, I bought the book for a friend who loves the film… I don’t think she has read it yet… but I bet its better than the film.

So looks like Spider-Man 4 isn’t even getting off the ground. A day after news came out reporting that actor John Malkovich was set to play The Vulture we
now hear that talks have completely broken down due to director “Sam Raimi pulling out of Spider-Man 4 because he felt he couldn’t make its summer release date and keep the film’s creative integrity. This means that Raimi and the cast including star Tobey Maguire are out. There will be no Spider-Man 4.”
Spider-Man 3 was pretty dire in comparison to its predecessors and the news that a fourth was in production with ‘The Vulture’ as the villain didn’t fill me with any great confidence that Spidey 4 was going to be an improvement. So a huge sigh of relief yes? Unfortunately not.
Sony has made this announcement:
Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012.
Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.
The new chapter in the “Spider-Man” franchise produced by Columbia, Marvel Studios and Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will have a new cast and filmmaking team. Spider-Man 4 was to have been released in 2011, but had not yet gone into production.
It now seems that Sony still wants to bleed this franchise dry and so a ‘reboot’ is on the way. I feel my shoulders tensing up already. The original film is not even TEN years old and they’re thinking about doing a Star Trek with a character that hasn’t been off our screens for more than a couple of years. With Star Trek it made sense, a new audience needed to be introduced to the characters and given a ‘modern’ spin whereas Spider-Man (first one came out 2002) was made for this generation and already has a strong audience. I think it would be a good idea to let the franchise sit for a while… it looks too much like creating a fast money spinner rather than a decent web spinner.

As I have mentioned I have been a wrestling fan for over 20 years and I have seen them come and go but one name keeps on coming up HULK HOGAN.
In the 1980’s Hulk Hogan helped make the Wrestling business mainstream, his charisma, his energy and his ability to connect with the crowd was magical. I remember watching his matches with King Kong Bundy, Ted Dibiase, André the Giant, Randy “Macho Man” Savage just to name a few.
Little did I know then about the politics of wrestling, how much back stabbing goes on and how Hulk was the biggest culprit of it all.
In the 1990s when the Internet took off, so did the wrestling dirt sheets, no longer were fans kept in the dark about matches, the outcomes or who was doing what to whom in the business, the fans got the tools to smarten up. It’s a shame Hulk Hogan didn’t, instead of learning, growing and evolving, he played his politics and tried to get himself into hollywood. For those that want to see his “Oscar” worthy performances look for “No Holds Barred”, “Mr Nanny” or the failed “Thunder in Paradise” all trailers are on YouTube or in the bargain bin of some seedy blockbusters in Iran.
Hulk Hogan outstayed his welcome in the WWF and went to WCW, where he did what no one expected him to, become BAD. Hollywood Hulk Hogan is probably the closest you will get to seeing the REAL Hulk Hogan, the real Terry Bollea. He is in one word an “Egomanic”… and he broke the industry because he could. WCW could have been a long-term contender to the WWF/WWE but instead of growing the talent at WCW, they kept the old boys happy and fed them the younger talent. Hulk Hogan was at the top of the mountain taking the money, short-changing the fans and ruining the talent.
Once WCW went bust, he went back to WWE and feuded with “The Rock”, “Triple H” and even his old friend/boss/lover Vince McMahon, the man who made Hulk. He left again because of Money and went on to make his TV shows, “Hogan Knows Best” and “Celebrity Championship Wrestling”. He got mileage out of his divorce and his daughter got new Boobs.
Now to January 4th 2010, a new year and decade and Hulk Hogan has resurfaced in TNA, the federation that is growing talent and creating the wrestling stars of tomorrow. In waltzs Hulk Hogan with his cronies and you ask yourself, is he going to build it up or tear it down? Will he be the saviour or the cancer of this business? has his ego been tamed or is it wilder than ever? after 20 years of watching this entertainment that I love become what it is today, do I want to watch a near 60-year-old man elevate the younger guys or squash them?
