Review: The Incredible Hulk

Hulk smash Ang Lee film! This film superior!
Ok I’ll probably have to mention that there may be some spoilers in here for anyone who hasn’t seen the flick yet.
Plot Summary (found on IMDB)
Depicting the events after the Gamma Bomb. ‘The Incredible Hulk’ tells the story of Dr Bruce Banner, who seeks a cure to his unique condition, which causes him to turn into a giant green monster under emotional stress. Whilst on the run from military which seeks his capture, Banner comes close to a cure. But all is lost when a new creature emerges; The Abomination.
My take on the film.
While I’m not the biggest fan of The Hulk comic book series or the old television series for that matter, I have to say my intereset for this film grew once I’d seen what Marvel Studios had done with their Iron Man property.

That said, I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I did. The story, the characters, the casting; everything fit. Ed Norton nails the timid Bruce Banner perfectly. Its all about him that makes the Hulk so powerful. He doesn’t have to be a beefy guy to play this giant gamma experiment gone wrong. Its all about who Bruce Banner is and the emotions inside that bring out the Hulk. Supporting characters all work well with and against Norton. William Hurt plays the more stereotypical character in the film but still manages to humanise him whereas Tim Roth’s insane power hungry soldier plays out like the enemy we all want to see fight the Hulk. I’m not actually a huge fan of Liv Tyler as I think alot of films she’s been in have just been there to prove how hot she looks. Granted this flick does the same but she doesn’t come off as an annoying screamy helpless woman. Where I thought she would bring cheesy pointless scenes to the film she simply showed off the side that creates the almost gentle giant in the Hulk. One other thing about this film…every cameo was perfect.

Granted there were some criticisms made when Norton was announced as Bruce Banner.
The film itself has a nice progression to it where it certainly feels like your always moving and building up to something. It doesn’t dissapoint. Banner’s constant running away, fighting countless weapons all the while trying to find a cure for himself creates a great rollercoaster of a film. This is what you want from a Hulk film plenty of showing off. The actions sequences in this film capture exactly what would happen in the comic book. The army fights, chase scenes and Abomination all create this intensity that makes you wonder what the hell they’re gonna throw at him next.

This wasn’t the sophisticated ballet that New Yorkers were expecting.
I suppose the thing that really got me about this film is the great feeling of struggle. There’s alot of passion in this piece and the emotion created by the Hulk is so impressive, much more than in his previous outing. You feel he is battling something bigger than he can imagine but he keeps going. Visually the Hulk looks stunning in various scenes although some really could have done with some work. The fight between Hulk and Abomination is epic and is something of a marvel (pun intended) to watch.
There’s more I can say but I would ramble.
Giving this film a ‘GHEY‘ rating I would highly recommend giving it your time.

Great movie! Edward Norton Jr was superb as Bruce Banner.
I didn’t read the review and i won’t because i saw something bad mouthing Edward Norton
Thats what happens when you just look at pretty pictures and don’t read the information between them. I loved the film and thought Ed Norton nailed the role.
